2019-02-03Head of the Severn 2019
After weeks of planning from our committee our Head of the Severn event proved to be very successful.
This year we opened up our event to allow singles and doubles to compete. This is something that we have never done before and this year we had 19 singles and doubles enter into the race. As well as these boats entering we also had another 39 crews entering into other categories which means we had over 50 crews entering all together, split over three divisions throughout the day.
The conditions allowed for perfect racing, which ran smoothly with no incidents. Our own athletes from the club were actively involved with the running of the day. We had our own BBQ which made us over £350 for our club.
Our own development squad 4 in the women’s category performed very well completing the course in a time of 17:41. Our open single competitor won his event completing the course in a time of 16:46.
As a committee, we were very proud to run a friendly and successful event this year. We have received lots of very positive feedback both from competitors and from external companies providing services on the day.
An athlete from Stourport boat club described the day as ‘a great event, very well run by a friendly bunch of people- from the car park entrance to the start line. Looking forward to coming back next year’.
Point2Point services who provided our first aid cover for the event this year described the event as ‘well organised and very friendly’. As a club, we pride ourselves on having a welcoming atmosphere and providing the best experience for our competitors.
We are hoping that next year’s event can be even more successful! The committee has learnt a lot from organising this year’s race, and are ready to pass on experience to future committees. We are grateful for the support from all the coaches and university staff in the involvement of helping us run this successful event.
